This sauce is was a favorite of my husband's when he was growing up and we still eat it on a regular basis. It is flavorful, chunky, and has just the right balance of spice and sweetness to it. For a special treat, try it with mizzithra or asiago cheese. It's SO good, easy to make, and it freezes wonderfully. So make a batch, enjoy it now, and put some in the freezer for an easy meal later on!
3 lbs. ground beef (or turkey)
2 large onions, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
28 oz. diced tomatoes
3 TBSP Olive Oil
3 1/2 tsp Italian Seasoning
1 1/2 tsp Chilli Powder
12 oz. can Tomato Paste
1 tsp Oregano
2 tsp salt
24 oz. tomato sauce
3 Bay leaves
1/2 cup apple juice
dash of Worcestershire sauce
2 large onions, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
28 oz. diced tomatoes
3 TBSP Olive Oil
3 1/2 tsp Italian Seasoning
1 1/2 tsp Chilli Powder
12 oz. can Tomato Paste
1 tsp Oregano
2 tsp salt
24 oz. tomato sauce
3 Bay leaves
1/2 cup apple juice
dash of Worcestershire sauce
Saute the onions in the olive oil until they are transparent. Add beef and cook through. Add the remaining ingredients and simmer for 2-3 hours. (Tip: If you don't have time to let it simmer that long, don't let it turn you off. It will still be good. However, it is better if it simmers for the recommended time)
